Prevalence of Premenstrual Syndrome among Adolescent Girls in the Selected Schools in Kathmandu, Nepal

The global prevalence of premenstrual syndrome is 47.8%. This study was conducted to assess among adolescent girl students selected schools in Kathmandu. A descriptive cross sectional total 150 students. They were by using proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Data collected standard PMS scale (r =0.81) through self-administered method. analyzed SPSS version 16 statistics and inferential statistics. mean age deviation 14.43 years ± 1.143 with range 11-16 respondents. Among them, majority respondent (84.0%) had syndrome. Assessment severity found that the minority respondents (0.6%) mild, 54.7% moderate, 24.0% severe 4.7% very PMS. Premenstrual significantly associated family history (p=0.041), number pads used per day during period (p=0.032), junk food consumption (p=0.007), physical exercise (p=0.020), experience stress (p=0.006). Thus it can be concluded that, most girls have experienced ranging from mild symptoms. Therefore, would good if school organize regular screening program girl’s friendly environment identify problem on timely.
